Cookie Policy

What cookies and local storage we use, and how to control them.

Last updated: 23 June 2026

Summary

  • ✓ We use no cookies of our own — your preferences are stored in localStorage, not cookies.
  • ! We display Google AdSense ads, which may set advertising cookies.
  • ✓ You can opt out of personalised ads at any time via Google's Ad Settings.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to website owners about how their site is used.

Cookies are different from localStorage — a browser-native storage mechanism that stores data on your device only and does not transmit it with every HTTP request.

2. Cookies We Set

Coders Lingo does not set any first-party cookies. We use localStorage instead of cookies for all site functionality.

Browser localStorage (not cookies)

Key Purpose Expiry
cl_streak Daily streak counter — consecutive days of practice Persists until cleared
cl_theme Light/dark mode preference Persists until cleared
cl_progress Session exercise progress indicators Session only

This data is stored entirely on your device. We have no access to it and cannot recover it if cleared. You can delete it at any time via your browser's storage settings for coderslingo.com.

3. Third-Party Cookies — Google AdSense

We display advertisements served by Google AdSense (operated by Google LLC). Google AdSense may set cookies on your device to:

  • Serve advertisements relevant to your interests (personalised advertising).
  • Limit how many times you see the same advertisement.
  • Measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.
  • Prevent fraudulent clicks on advertisements.

IDE Google (doubleclick.net) Personalised advertising — tracks browsing across sites to serve relevant ads Google Ads
ANID Google Stores advertising preferences and user identity for Google advertising Google Privacy
NID Google User preferences and personalisation for Google services Google Privacy
Advertising pixels / local storage Google AdSense Ad delivery, frequency capping, fraud prevention Google Cookies

These cookies are set by Google, not by us. We do not have access to, or control over, the cookies Google sets. Google's use of cookies is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

4. How to Control Cookies

4.1 Opt out of personalised advertising

You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google at any time:

  • Google Ad Settings — manage how Google uses your data for advertising
  • Your Online Choices (EU) — opt out from multiple ad networks
  • Network Advertising Initiative (US) — opt out tool

When you opt out of personalised ads, you will still see advertisements — they will just not be tailored to your interests.

4.2 Browser cookie controls

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that blocking all third-party cookies may affect how advertisements appear on this and other websites.

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Apple Safari
  • Microsoft Edge

4.3 Clear localStorage

To clear data stored by Coders Lingo in your browser's local storage: open your browser's Developer Tools (F12), go to Application → Local Storage → coderslingo.com, and delete the entries. Alternatively, clearing all site data for coderslingo.com in your browser settings will remove it.

5. Changes to This Policy

We will update this page if our use of cookies or similar technologies changes. The date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was last revised.

6. Contact

If you have questions about this cookie policy, please use our contact page.
