Daily Standup Speaking Exercises
Practice speaking confidently in daily standups: reporting progress clearly, flagging blockers professionally, and keeping your update concise under 60 seconds.
Standup structure
- Yesterday: "Yesterday I..." + what you completed or worked on
- Today: "Today I'm going to..." + your plan or current task
- Blockers: "I'm blocked on..." or "No blockers" if clear
- Time limit: aim for 30–60 seconds — standups are not status reports
- Giving Clear Updates → — Practise the standard three-part standup format with IT scenarios
- Flagging Blockers → — How to flag blockers clearly without sounding like you're complaining
- Async Standup Communication → — Writing standup updates for Slack or Teams when meetings are replaced by text
